As a mom of four little ones, ages 7 and under, I began building a freezer stash of breastmilk with all of my babies to ensure there’s milk whenever I return to work or just need a few hours to myself.
With my older children, I hardly had time to eat a hot meal, let alone sit down to pump multiple times a day. Plus, when I did pump, I was practically chained to the couch, tethered by cords and tubes with bulky breast pumps. That’s why I was so thrilled to discover the Motif Aura Breast Pump and use it with my new baby when I'm on the go. The lightweight, wireless design makes it the perfect hands-free (yay!) pump for busy moms like me always on the go and a perfect pair for my Motif Luna.
My Most Important Tip – Choose the Right (Wearable) Pump!
Let me repeat, this pump is hands-free! Here are a few other reasons why the Motif Aura is a total game changer:
- Comes with two easy-to-use pumps, charging cords, a diaphragm for closed-system pumping, and soft silicone inserts in various sizes to fit each mom’s needs.
- It even comes with two twist-on nipple tops so you can easily store a freshly pumped bottle for feeding.
- The pump comes apart for simple cleaning and goes back together quickly and easily. Charging is a breeze and fast too.
- It’s designed to fit in your bra and weighs less than half a pound, which is 25 to 50 percent lighter than comparable wearable pumps currently on the market. It slides into a bra or nursing tank so easily and efficiently that I can pump without anyone even knowing.
- I like how the Motif is a good fit. During pumping, my nipple is able to move freely in the breast shield tunnel. There is space around the nipple and not much of the areola is drawn into the tunnel.
- The Motif Aura is convenient to use, whether driving in the car, doing dishes or on a walk with my girls. I absolutely love the hands-free versatility. It definitely has helped me maximize my time.
- The pump is so quiet that it doesn’t wake my baby, and the backlit display is subtle enough to use in a dark nursery.
- The easy-to-read display makes the Motif Aura incredibly user-friendly to change settings and strength. I also enjoy using the Motif Medical app to track my sessions and even control my pump settings from my phone. It’s convenience in the palm of my hand!
Other Helpful Tips I've Learned as a Pumping Mom of Four
I know breastfeeding can seem overwhelming but it is also an amazing bonding experience with your little one. Here are eight of my favorite tips for breastfeeding and pumping:

1. Keep your breast pump parts clean! I love using sterilizing bags that you can just pop in the microwave.
2. Pump in the morning when your supply is the fullest.
3. Switch sides regularly to ensure both breasts produce the same. Move a hair tie or bracelet from one wrist to the other to keep track if needed (or use an app like the one from Motif Medical).
4. Research breast milk-boosting recipes to increase or sustain your supply. This one is my favorite!
5. Keep a nursing basket nearby stocked with healthy snacks, lip balm, nipple cream, extra burp cloths, and other essentials you’ll want within reach.
6. Utilize your nursing bra to provide additional support for holding your pump in place.
7. Apply light pressure when adjusting settings on your pump to maintain suction. It’s also best to double-check the flange size regularly to ensure a secure attachment.
8. Contact a lactation consultant with any breastfeeding or pumping questions or issues. They can provide a wealth of knowledge!
