Best Jogging Strollers

Quick Summary

The best jogging stroller is the Thule Urban Glide 3, according to parents in the What to Expect community, because it's easy to maneuverae across any type of terrain, has exceptional storage space and is durabile enough to be used with multiple babies.

Before becoming a mom, nothing helped me unwind like a long jog. So, when I first found out I was pregnant, I made sure to add a high-quality jogging stroller to my registry. Understanding how many changes motherhood brings, I knew a jogging stroller would allow me to maintain my active lifestyle and share it with my daughter—and the two others who would follow in the coming years.

Whether you're training for a post-pregnancy marathon or looking to take long walks on rough terrain, a jogging stroller is a worthwhile splurge for parents who want to stay active post-baby. And yes, jogging strollers are different from traditional strollers. With superior suspension and large wheels, jogging strollers provide a smooth ride at any speed, on any terrain. If you're hoping to bring your baby along for a run, keep reading for our parent-approved recommendations.

How I Chose the Best Jogging Strollers

When I set out to find the very best jogging strollers on the market, I first reviewed stroller safety guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and Mayo Clinic. I also spoke with Maneesha Agarwal, M.D., a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, to learn how to safely use a jogging stroller. In line with these recommendations, every stroller on this list features:

  • A wide base to prevent tipping
  • Easy-to-operate brakes
  • A single footrest to keep little feet from getting stuck
  • A five-point safety harness

To narrow the list from a few dozen to six, I relied on my personal experience with jogging strollers and combed through the What to Expect community for recommendations, learning what features were most important to active parents. Based on their input, all the jogging strollers selected are:

  • Easy to maneuver
  • Durable
  • Equipped with ample storage space

Why We Love It

"Smooth," "easy to navigate," and "lasts forever" are just some of the things What to Expect parents are saying about theThule Urban Glide 3. Having personally used a Thule jogging stroller with my children, I have to agree. It’s easy to steer thanks to its light frame and large, inflatable wheels, which make traversing any type of terrain (gravel, sand, cobblestones, etc.) a breeze. The swivel front wheel can be easily fixed for high speeds, and the smooth hand brake allows for speedy yet safe jogs.

One feature I personally loved was the adjustable handlebar that made the stroller comfortable for both me and my 6-foot-2 husband to push. We also appreciated the adapter setthat allowed us to use the jogging stroller when our daughter was a newborn. (The compatible bassinet was also a big plus!)

Safety is a defining aspect of the Thule, and it boasts a five-point harness, integrated ventilation, and textiles free of harmful substances to ensure your little one is safe and snug while you jog. The Urban Glide 3 also includes plenty of storage space, with a cargo basket and zip-top cover, a rear mesh pocket, and two mesh compartments—perfect for stashing snacks or baby gear.

At more than $600, the Thule Urban Glide 3 is on the expensive side. However, it can be used as an everyday stroller since it folds compactly and is easy to store in the trunk, making the hefty price tag a little easier to justify.

  • "The Thule Urban Glide is amazing - it's the smoothest ride ever because it has massive wheels and serious shocks."

  • "We love our Thule Urban Glide. We bought it new but it’s easily the most common stroller to find on FB marketplace (I’m in CO so that might be why). I think you could definitely go used on it!"

  • "We love our Thule jogging stroller! There is an infant car seat attachment available for purchase. It’s expensive but really great quality and has a very large weight limit so kids can use it for a long time. Something to consider :)"

  • "I have the Thule jogging stroller and love it! We go on long walks, to the farmers market, to the botanical gardens etc. It is my home base (carry all for drinks, sunscreen, small diaper bag etc) However I do have a smaller stroller for airport travel and the occasional mall trip."

Why We Love It

For families with twins or children close in age, a double jogging stroller can be a real lifesaver, whether you’re tackling a tough hiking trail or just going on a neighborhood walk. With its mountain bike-style suspension and comfortable double seats, it's easy to see why the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie is a favorite among What to Expect parents.

Despite its large size, the BOB Gear Revolution is easy to maneuver (even with one hand, says one What to Expect mom), smooth on any surface and durable enough to last for years. The swivel-locking front wheel and suspension system allow for long jogs without compromising on safety, and parents love how the roomy seats can accommodate kiddos from the newborn stage with a separately sold infant car seat adapter.

The seats easily go from upright to almost fully reclined with a convenient one-hand adjuster, and you can check on them effortlessly using the magnetic peek window. Other features include an adjustable foam handlebar, an under-stroller basket and six storage pockets. It’s also made of water-resistant fabric with UPF 50+ sun protection.

At 33.1 pounds, the BOB Gear Revolution is definitely on the heavier side; several parents noted it is not a great everyday stroller since it is bulky and can be difficult to unload from the trunk. Other parents mentioned that the five-point safety harness was tricky to wrangle, especially compared with previous models. The $800 price tag is also pretty steep, though parents gush over the quality and durability of BOB Gear strollers and appreciate how they hold up for miles upon miles of rough terrain.

  • "Third time mama here. Our little guys are currently 2 (33lbs) & 4 (45lbs). We’ve had our double BOB since the second one was born. It’s been worth every single penny! We’ve taken it on gravel, sand, grass, I’ve trained for a 10K with it! It’s still like new, and even at nearly 80lbs of kiddos, I can push them with one hand. Just get the attachment for your newborn carrier, and it’s seriously amazinggggg, even when they’re newborns!!!"

  • "I also love my double BOB! I have a 4 year old and 2 year old. I got my duallie when my youngest was under a year and I love it! One of my favorite purchases for two kids! It’s so easy to push, run with, and is so durable!"

  • "BOB 100%. So easy to steer and push (even with just one hand)!"

  • "We love our double bob. I got it used because just struggled to justify the price new and it has been great. It is very big so not great for taking on car trips but we use our mostly for neighborhood walks/jogs (sidewalks suck or don’t exist in my 100 year old neighborhood). I swear I’ve put at least 1000 miles on that thing over the last 4 years. It’s also great because it’s got a lot of room for taller kids so we can still go for long walks with my 6 year and he can hop in when he gets tired."

The Baby Trend Expedition Jogging Stroller provides all the must-have features of a jogging stroller without the hefty price tag. With a lockable swivel front bicycle wheel, a lightweight steel frame, and a reclinable, padded seat with a five-point safety harness, the Baby Trend Expedition ticks all the boxes at a fraction of the cost of other jogging strollers.

Other notable features include a parent tray with two cup holders and a covered compartment to stash your phone, as well as a large under-carriage storage basket for diaper bags and extra gear. The Baby Trend Expedition also folds quite compactly, making it a great space-saving option. You can also create a travel system with the Baby Trend EZ-Lift Infant Car Seat, allowing you to use the stroller every day.

While the Baby Trend Expedition delivers great value for its price, parents who are serious runners say it's not the smoothest ride due to its lack of suspension. The handlebar also does not adjust, which could be uncomfortable for parents of different heights. Though it may not be the best choice for marathon training, the Baby Trend Expedition is a good alternative for parents looking for a stroller capable of handling rough terrain without breaking the bank.

  • "We're using the Baby Trend Expedition jogging stroller. Also not for running (because running is terrible lol) but instead for rough roads and a smoother ride for bub. I went with that one mainly because I got it free with Kohls cash after buying his new car seats. We've been super happy with it! The wheels are really nice and such an upgrade from his Graco stroller. I like that it has the cup holders for him too. Oh and a big plus is the handle is higher! My husband is 6'3" and almost hunches over with the Graco to push it. He's much more comfortable comfortable pushing the Baby Trend one. We ended up getting the Baby Trend wagon recently because we liked the stroller so much!"

  • "The baby trend jogging stroller is awesome!! And super affordable. We’ve had the double version for 5 years now and LOVE it still!"

  • "Baby trend expedition jogger has been awesome. I’d also recommend getting a rain cover so the wind isn’t whipping them in the face :)"

  • "i love my baby trend jogger. i got the single with my first and just got the double for my second. ive put over 500 miles on the first and havent had to change the tires yet. I always get compliments on how maneuverable it is whether going over curbs, on dirt roads, the beach, ect. I also tend to sprint the last 100 feet of each of my miles and it hangs on there too. The double is almost just as seemless when pushing. For the money, its phenomenal. The only qualm i have is that the clip that changes the forward wheel to locked or unlocked to keep it from turning, tends to slid down causing the stroller to vibrate. When this first happened it felt like the stroller was going to fall apart. All i did was flip the switch up and down and continued running. I can tell when its about to happen bc of the specific vibration so i just stop and flip it. Ive had it happen maybe 4 times in the full 6 months i ran around 3-6+ miles a day 5x a week. Storage is awesome, its light weight and fits great in my car. 10/10 recommend. You can find them at second hand stores too"

If you’re looking to get a run in while on vacation, or simply want a more compact jogging stroller that fits in tight spaces, look no further than the Guava Roam. Though it is a full-size jogging stroller, the Guava Roam folds 50 percent smaller than standard jogging strollers, making it easy to stash alongside luggage in the trunk or bring along to the airport. And because its wheels have airless, rubber tires, you don’t need to pack an air pump.

Families living in urban areas love the Roam—it fits into small apartment entryways, handles cracked, uneven sidewalks with ease, and can be carried thanks to its lightweight design and convenient carry handle. And since there’s a separate infant car seat adapter available for purchase, you can use this stroller from day one with your little one.

Other features to love include the front wheel lock you can adjust from a dial on the handlebar, a large storage basket, and a parent organizer with cup holders and zipper pockets. The handlebar is adjustable, too, so parents of all heights can push the stroller comfortably.

Some parents dislike that there’s no hand brake (the brakes are located near the wheels), making it difficult to activate them mid-jog. Others found the sun canopies didn’t provide adequate shade. Still, the Guava Roam is a great option if you’re looking for a compact travel jogging stroller that can be used every day.

  • "We got the guava stroller. I wanted an all in one where I can go trail running to get back in shape. We also have a flight of stairs from our house to the road, so light weight was important. It folds and isn't too heavy."

  • "The Guava Roam stroller is awesome. Also the tires are airless so they won’t pop off-road!"

  • "I love my Guava Roam! I wish they made a double. It has done well on grass, gravel, boardwalks, unpaved trails, iced over snow, sandy beaches, crappy sidewalks, ten mile trail runs ... I love this thing. We literally use it every day and have put a ton of miles on it. The airless tires are great; you never have to worry about a flat or puncture. The ability to flip the front wheel from locked to unlocked at the handlebar is also super nice if you’re going from rough terrain to needing a tight turn. It makes it a really great crossover stroller; I use mine in Trader Joe’s without issue."

  • "We tried the new GUAVA Roam and love it. I think I’m still in our trial period but we’re definitely keeping it. We even like it so much we gave our coveted Nuna Mixx to my SIL. I can fold it with one hand and swing it into the trunk. It’s supposedly like 50% smaller when folded as compared to other strollers. Also the handle adjusts to 4 heights which is awesome plus it has stroller mode."

Why We Love It

One downside to jogging strollers is their size, but the  Joovy Zoom 360 proves that doesn't have to be the case. At just 25.7 pounds, it’s about the same weight as a standard stroller. Despite its lightweight design, the Joovy Zoom 360 boasts large, air-filled tires and shock-absorbing suspension to help you handle rugged hiking trails and bumpy city sidewalks alike. The lockable swivel-front wheel adds to the stroller’s maneuverability.

The Joovy also has a higher child weight limit than other jogging strollers; your little one can safely join your runs until they hit 75 pounds! Since this jogging stroller has a separate infant car seat adapter, it could potentially be used from birth until far into toddlerhood, making it a great value.

Parents also love the Joovy’s large sun canopy with its Velcro peek-a-boo window that makes checking on baby a breeze, and the high, upright seat with a five-point safety harness that allows little ones to take in the view while on a jog. The Joovy Zoom 360 comes with a parent organizer to keep essentials handy, as well as a large storage basket. Since it folds easily and compactly, the Joovy Zoom 360 is a popular pick for parents looking to purchase just one stroller for both everyday use and jogging.

Some parents disliked the Joovy’s braking system: It’s set by pushing down on the single pedal between the back wheels and disengaged by pushing up with the top of the foot. Parents looking to do some serious running prefer a jogging stroller with a hand brake, as it is easier to engage mid-stride. The handlebar is not adjustable, which can pose a problem for parents of different heights. But for families looking for a light, affordable, and versatile jogging stroller, the Joovy Zoom 360 is an excellent option.

Community Reviews
  • "I love the joovy zoom. Its very lightweight. Used it hiking, running, everything. Great for them to sleep in flat eventually. Hate, hate bobs think they arent worth a dime. The baby trend is ok because its the cheapest but not the best if youre a serious outdoor exerciser."

  • "I only use a jogging stroller! I have the Joovy Zoom 360 UltraLite. I find our other (cheaper) travel system stroller just doesn't ride as well. I'll have 2 under 2 soon so will be switch to the Joovy Qool."

  • "I have the joovy and it has mostly been very good. I like the window that allows me to see my daughter. It handles very well. My daughter wants the seat to be more upright than it is, that’s the main downside. We use it exclusively and put the Chicco one we got with our travel system into storage."

  • "Love my Joovy zoom stroller. We live in the country and it has huge wheels that can go on any terrain! I put a towel on either side of my 6 month old so doesn’t move too much. My 1 year old sits in the front when he doesn’t feel like walking ha tho it’s not officially a double stroller, I am able to use it as one. Has great storage and pretty good sun coverage."

Why We Love It

Made with the same incredible suspension and maneuverability as Thule’s other strollers, the Thule Chariot Lite allows parents to jog, bike, or cross-country ski with their little ones, even in the most inclement weather. What to Expect parents say the Thule Chariot keeps the baby dry with its adjustable ventilation system, rain cover, and sunshade. The five-point harness keeps little ones safe in the Chariot’s seats, and parents love that you can buy removable padding to give your kiddo a little more cushioning.

It’s also easy to switch between activities with Thule’s VersaWing system, and kits that are not in use can be stored on board the Chariot, reducing clutter in your garage. Other favorite features include the rear light for added visibility, an adjustable handlebar, and ample space for diapers and other essentials.

For its size, the Thule Chariot Lite is relatively light at 25.7 pounds and folds compactly by removing the wheels, making it small enough to be stored in a car trunk. At $900, the Thule Chariot Lite is on the pricier side and only includes the strolling and biking kit, with the jogging and skiing kits sold separately. You’d also need to purchase a smaller stroller for daily use. However, for families that plan to use a jogging stroller for multiple activities in all kinds of weather, the quality of the Thule Chariot Lite simply can’t be beaten.

  • "We have a thule chariot 2 seater…. It is literally my favorite. I rarely use a stroller anymore, I just use the chariot with the jogging wheel. So much space for the kids and everything else I like to drag with me"

  • "I have the thule chariot. I like that baby is nice a cozy in there. you can also but it on the back of a bike and put ski's on it too! can't wait to try it cross country skiing."

  • "I use our Thule chariot since it can be used as a jogger, but also pulled behind a bike, xc skiing, and is good on rougher terrain. It’s not great with sharp turns though."

  • "For snow country, I highly recommend a chariot style stroller for outdoor walks. Thule makes the best one quality wise. I used to live in the arctic and it was a game changer to get outside with the babies. It can be enclosed to keep heat in and bundle up with blankets etc too and you can attaché skies as well if you want to do cross country skiing etc."

What to Look For In a Jogging Stroller

There are a few factors to consider when choosing the right jogging stroller, in addition to those we outlined when creating our list. To ensure the jogging stroller suits your family’s specific needs, consider the following:

  • Portability: Families living in big cities or planning to travel with their jogging stroller should select one that’s lightweight, compact, and easy to fold and store. It's also important to ensure that the jogging stroller is light enough to be carried upstairs (especially if you live in a walk-up building) and can pass through narrower city door frames.
  • Versatility: A jogging stroller is an expensive purchase, so you’ll want to choose a model that can be used for more than just logging miles. Consider a jogging stroller that works with an infant car seat adapter, allowing you to use the stroller from the get-go. If you have multiples or children close in age, consider looking into double jogging strollers.
  • Cost: Not to sound like a broken record, but jogging strollers are expensive. Before spending the money, consider how often you plan to use the jogging stroller and what its primary purpose will be. Parents who will jog with their stroller multiple times a week and plan to use it as their primary stroller may want to invest in a more expensive and higher-quality model.

FAQs

Jogging strollers are a great option for parents looking to run with a little one in tow, as running with a regular stroller is not recommended. Jogging strollers are designed to absorb the shocks your stroller will endure during a run; superior suspension and larger wheels ensure your baby won’t feel every bump. Jogging strollers also have a locking front wheel for added safety, which prevents the stroller from catching and tipping over. A regular stroller’s wheels can easily get caught on rough terrain, potentially flipping over and injuring your little one.

That said, jogging strollers are expensive, so they’re best suited for serious runners who want to maintain their mileage once the baby is born.

While it can be tempting to start running once you’re given the all-clear by your OB/GYN, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend jogging with your baby until they are at least 6 months old and have good head and neck control.

"Babies have relatively large heads and poor neck musculature, meaning they could suffer injury from all the jostling involved with riding in a jogging stroller," says Maneesha Agarwal, M.D., a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

You can still use jogging strollers for babies younger than 6 months old, as long as you stick with walking and your baby is in an infant car seat or bassinet. The AAP also recommends waiting to tackle really tough terrain until your baby is 12 months old and has better head and core control and stronger neck muscles to manage bumpy surfaces.

Dr. Agarwal says parents of babies born prematurely should wait until 6 months from the expected due date before putting their baby in a jogging stroller. When it’s time for that first jog, Dr. Agarwal advises keeping it brief to ensure the baby can tolerate it.

"Visually check on the baby periodically when running, especially since many jogging strollers have the baby facing away from the parent," Dr. Agarwal says. "The younger the baby, the more frequently you should check on them."
