Having a baby is exciting — and expensive. But if you time your shopping right, you can save hundreds of dollars on everything you’re going to need for your baby’s first year. hat’s why you’ll want to be prepared to shop on Amazon Prime Day, which is coming back July 16 and 17. Last year, parents and parents-to-be scored the best deals of the year on many of the most expensive items on a typical baby registry (think: strollers, car seats and video baby monitors), as well as everyday essentials like diapers and wipes.

Amazon keeps its fall Prime Day deals under wraps until the very last minute — but with that said, I’ve been covering Prime Day for What to Expect since 2019, and I’ve noticed that history tends to repeat itself. Amazon often has the same basic Prime Day baby deals this year.

There are a few steps you need to take to ensure you can take advantage of these deals:

  • Sign up for a Prime membership, if you don’t already have one; you’ll start with a 30-day free trial. These deals are only valid for Prime members.
  • Bookmark What to Expect’s Amazon Prime Day Baby Deals hub. We’re updating it daily with Prime Day information as it becomes available, and will be curating all the very best deals on October 10 and 11. In other words, no need to scour Amazon for the best days on Prime Day, because we’re doing the hard work for you.
  • If you’re expecting, create an Amazon baby registry. Having an organized wish list will be especially helpful on Prime Day: simply pull up your registry, see which of the items are on sale and add them to your cart.

Based on the four Prime Days I covered before this, here are the products I think you should be prepared to buy this July.

Diapers, wipes and creams

The average baby goes through a whopping 2,500 to 3,000 diapers in their first year of life, which could set you back up to $900. Factor in wipes, diaper rash cream and ointments, and you’re looking at shelling out well over $1,000. But the last several Prime Days have been the perfect opportunity to stock up on diapers and wipes. In 2023, Amazon offered up to 30 percent off diapers and wipes from big brand names like Pampers, Honest and Babyganics. There were also super-popular deals on Boudreaux’s Butt Paste Maximum Strength Diaper Rash Ointment and Water Wipes.

This year, keep an eye out for similar deals. If you’re pregnant or have a newborn, consider buying at least one box each of sizes 1 through 3 on Prime Day; if your baby’s older, buy at least one box of whatever size they’re in now, plus one box of the following two sizes. It’s significant savings on something you’re guaranteed to need eventually.

Here are some of the best Amazon Prime Day diaper and wipes deals from 2023:

  • Up to 33% on diapers from Pampers, Huggies, Honest and more
  • 20% off Boudreaux’s Butt Paste and Triple Paste Diaper Rash Ointment
  • 15% off Mama Bear Water Wipes

Stroller

Chances are, one of the most expensive items on your baby registry is the stroller — and, frustratingly, strollers rarely go on sale. Prime Day is one of the few times every year when you’re likely to nab a deal. For the past four years, Amazon Prime Day deals included steep discounts on several popular and highly rated strollers. On the value-minded end of the spectrum, there are usually deals on Graco; on the luxury side, several Evenflo strollers and travel systems were 30% off in 2023.

Considering a jogging stroller? Prime Day usually has at least one of those on sale as well — in 2023, there were deals on the Baby Jogger Summit stroller, and in 2021 there were deals on the Thule Urban Glide and the Graco Fast Action.

Here’s a selection of the best Prime Day stroller deals we saw in 2023:

  • Up to 40% off Graco strollers
  • 30% off the Evenflo Pivot Suite Modular Travel System
  • 30% off the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 All-Terrain Stroller
  • 34% off the Britax B-Lively and B-Safe Gen2 Travel System
  • 45% off the Baby Jogger Summit Stroller

Car seat

Your child will be in a car seat until they’re about 8 years old, and sometimes for longer. Most families buy an infant car seat for the first year, then switch to a convertible car seat and finally move to a high-back booster seat. Amazon Prime Day is a chance to save money on all three of these products. In 2020, my daughter was still a few months away from needing to move out of her infant car seat, but I bought a Graco Extend2Fit convertible car seat on Prime Day and kept it in storage until I needed it.

Here are the best Amazon Prime Day car seat deals from 2023:

  • 40% off the Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat
  • 30% off the Graco Slimfit 3-in-1 Car Seat in Darcie
  • 30% off the Maxi-Cosi Pria 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
  • 20% off the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat

Video baby monitor

What to Expect named the Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor the best baby monitor overall thanks to its superior picture quality, reliability and sleep tracking features — but at around $300, it’s definitely pricey. Be on the lookout for a Nanit deal on Prime Day, though — it was included in the sale in both 2022 and 2023. Similarly, the Owlet smart baby monitor is super popular, and has been on sale for Prime Day every year since 2020.

Here are the best Amazon Prime Day baby monitor deals from 2023:

  • 25% off the Owlet Cam Smart Baby Monitor
  • 30% off the Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor and up to 30% on all other Nanit gear
  • Up to 30% off VTech Baby Monitors

Nursery furniture

Nursery furniture — cribs, bassinets, gliders, etc. — is another one of those product categories where you’re unlikely to find discounts outside of a few set times every year. Prime Day is one of them. I wish I had known this back when I was buying a crib; in 2019, a few months before my daughter was born, I paid full price for a Babyletto Hudson crib— and then the exact same crib was 20 percent off on Prime Day, and I missed out on saving about $100.

Here are the best Amazon Prime Day nursery furniture deals from last year:

  • 30% off the HALO BassiNest Swivel Baby Bassinet
  • 30% off the Graco Pack ‘n-Play Dome LX-Playard
  • Up to 40% off Delta Children cribs and more
  • 15% off Babyletto cribs

Nursing and feeding supplies, including wireless breast pumps

If you’re planning on breastfeeding, then one product to consider buying on Prime Day is a wireless breast pump. These hands-free pumps go into your bra and allow you to walk around and go about your day while you discreetly pump milk. And while your insurance is required to provide you with a breast pump, they typically won’t cover one of these more-expensive models. The popular Willow pump has been discounted on Prime Day every year since 2020, and we predict it’ll be back this year. Last year, there was also a price cut on the Elvie pump.

Prime Day is also a good opportunity to stock up on breastfeeding supplies including milk storage bags, as well as more general feeding supplies like bottles.

Here are the best Amazon Prime Day baby feeding deals from 2023:

  • 20% off  the Elvie Double Electric Wearable Smart Breast Pump
  • Over 40% off Medela pumps and nursing acessories
  • 30% off Willow pumps
  • 20% off the Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner
  • Up to 30% off fbottles from Dr. Brown's, Tommee Tippee, Philips AVENT and more

Toys

My daughter’s birthday is in August, so every Prime Day, I scour the toys section looking for gifts. (In 2020, when Prime Day fell in October, I shopped ahead for Christmas.) To my delight — and my daughter’s — there are always toys on sale from Melissa & Doug, my favorite toy brand. I love Melissa & Doug toys because they encourage imaginative, open-ended play, which is exactly what you want from a toddler toy.

In 2022, I bought a pretend cooking-baking set from Melissa & Doug — but the thing I was most excited to buy was a Magna-Tiles set. Magna-Tiles are exactly what they sound like — magnetic tiles that a child can use to build creative structures — and while they’re an amazing toy, they are expensive and never go on sale. When I saw they were 30 percent off on Prime Day 2022, I immediately added them to my cart.

Here are some of the best Amazon Prime Day toy deals from 2023:

  • Up to 50% off select toys from Melissa & Doug
  • Up to 40% off Skip-Hop toys
  • Up to 40% off Mega Bloks and LEGOS
  • 30% off the Magna-Tiles 32-Piece Clear Colors Set
  • 20% off SEREED Balance Bike

Other types of products to shop for on Amazon Prime Day

Clearly, Amazon Prime Day gives you ample opportunity to save on baby products you’re definitely going to need. But it’s also a chance for you to score discounts on products you may need for your house, your pets or just for you.

In 2020, I impulse-purchased a Tineco stick vacuum cleaner on Amazon Prime Day, and to date, I think it’s my favorite Prime Day purchase of all time. My daughter was a little over a year old at the time, and in the thick of finger-food exploration stage (in other words, I was constantly vacuuming food off the floor). Another year, I bought the TikTok-famous Revlon One Step hair dryer, which cut down the time I spent blow-drying my hair from 20 minutes to less than 10.

For 2024, be on the lookout for deals on vacuums (including robot vacuums like the Roomba), televisions, beauty products and appliances and more.
